When I started sewing for myself I didn’t expect to build my own handmade wardrobe but here I am! Taking clothes that I made on vacation with me!
I know many people aren’t really into sewing these days and I think that’s such a shame. I am almost a decade into my sewing journey but really only a few years into building my own handmade wardrobe. I know I will continue to sew more and more of my clothes over the next few years. It was surreal to be able to pack for a week at the beach and bring my very own, me made clothes! The feeling of reaching into your closet and grabbing an item of clothing that you cut, sewed, and fit yourself is so inspiring. Of course I had to document my me made clothes on the beautiful streets of Savannah.
If you are a beginner sewer and want to try your hand at knits then definitely try the Seamly Vallynne Tank pattern. The pattern for this sleeveless shirt is a great one to start with. It has a good shape and only a few pieces so it sews up quickly. It doesn’t have a lot of small details to work around making it a good basic tank top.
Not a sewist? I linked outfit details below with some ready to wear options.
I chose this 100 percent cotton floral knit fabric for my first time sewing this pattern. It’s an okay fabric and is easy to care for which is always a plus. I am thinking of making another version as a dress. I have some super soft rayon spandex knit in a fun turquoise that I think would work perfectly. Since I have the fabric left over from another project it’s like getting a free outfit!
