I did a lot of sewing around the holidays and I like most of it but I definitely have my favorites. This fold over clutch tops the list. This faux fur giraffe fabric has been hidden away in my stash for a couple of years now but I couldn’t come up with a project for it.
I kept seeing bags like this one from Clare V but I was definitely not going to spend $275 on it. So I picked up some faux fur leopard and got to work. I was pretty excited when I finished and really liked my end result but I thought it could be better. I tried making a few versions in a few sizes but I decided to make one more. That’s when I found the faux giraffe in my fabric stash. It had sat there for so long that I had completely forgotten I even had it.
The faux giraffe is more of an amazingly soft, velvety material than an actual faux animal hide so I had to reinforce it with interfacing to add some structure to the bag. And since I like bright, bold colors, I lined the inside of the clutch with a bright pink canvas. I decided on the canvas because I thought it would add more structure to it but the interfacing did the job well enough. If I make another one, I might opt for a woven cotton in a fun print. I couldn’t be happier with the final results. Don’t be surprised to see me carrying this bag for a long while!
