If I could, I would wear a skirt like this everyday.
When I first started sewing outfits for myself, I made a simple elastic waist skirt. It was the first thing I sewed beyond pillow covers or hemming my pants. Honestly, I had gained some weight, wasn’t feeling good about myself, and didn’t have anything to wear to work. One night when I was falling down a Pinterest black hole, I found a few tutorials for a simple skirt so I decided to try my hand at sewing one myself. I mean, a classic skirt is always in fashion so it was worth a shot. The tutorial was easy enough and I really liked the finished product so I decided to sew another one. And then another one. If you know me at all then you probably recognize this particular skirt as my go to game day skirt but I wear it all the time!
Over the course of making all those skirts, I added and adjusted several things to produce the perfect skirt for me. I always add a lining to my skirts. I never want to have to worry about showing anything I didn’t intend to. And of course I added a ruffle to the top! I considered making a white bow or sash to tie around the waist when I wear it a game day skirt. I could use my Cricut to customize it and add a cute little orange monogram. Would that be too much?
That’s been several years ago now since I made my first skirt – it was a soft gray and yellow pattern. This is still one of my go to styles to sew when I need something quick for a new outfit. Since they have an elastic waist it’s basically the same as wearing public appropriate pajamas, right?! Seriously though, I wear them for work, a casual Saturday, and a football game day skirt. You will definitely see me wearing this orange skirt a lot this fall for the Tennessee games.
I used to sell similar skirts in my etsy shop, Dressed In Cotton. I’m considering offering game day skirts as a custom order item. What do you think? Click here to read more about my etsy.
As for the bag, a clear bag is a staple accessories for most events these days since a lot of venues and stadiums only allow clear bags for safety reasons. It can be hard to find something functional and semi attractive. I made this one a few years ago by adding straps to a clear makeup bag. It’s been to several football games and I recently carried it when we went to an Avett Brothers concert a few weeks ago. Of course, now there are lots of fun options for sale like this collaboration between Collins Tuohy Smith of Collins’ Closet and GiGi New York. Etsy also has lots of cute and affordable options like these cute monogrammed ones – here and here.
I just had to throw those last two candid pictures in because they make me laugh. As if you don’t see enough pictures of my dogs on Instagram, here’s another one! When we were trying to take pictures, Gunner kept bringing me his bumper to throw. He doesn’t take no for an answer and was throwing it on my feet every time we tried to take a picture. Anyone else struggle with a dog that never seems to get enough attention?
